ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching & Mentoring
The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring aims to provide practising managers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as coaches or mentors as part of their normal work role.
PNE offers this qualification as a distance learning course using oscar, our e-portfolio system, and globe, our online learning system.
Learners will have access to learning materials which will set the context for the coaching qualification and provide underpinning knowledge on how to be an effective coach or mentor. Activities are linked to each module for the learner. Learners will be given the opportunity to assess their learning by completing a quiz for each module as well as an overall assessment of the whole course. This will be marked by a designated tutor who will also provide online and telephone support for you when you are learning. You will have a designated assessor for the qualification.
In addition to the online course, to achieve the ILM qualification you will be asked to carry out coaching sessions with at least 2 coachees. One of these sessions will be observed by your assessor. You are required to keep an in-depth reflective diary of all of your coaching activity. You will then be given two assignment tasks to complete.
To complete the qualification you will need to provide:
Evidence of carrying out 12 hours of coaching in the workplace with at least 2 coachees.
Records of coaching and mentoring activity.
A Reflective Diary.
Three written assignments.
Evidence of feedback from those you coach.
There are no formal entry requirements. This course is suitable for those who carry out, or would like to carry out, coaching or mentoring in the workplace probably as part of their managerial role.
The Level 5 vocationally related qualification in Coaching and Mentoring is designed for managers who would like to learn how to use coaching and mentoring techniques to improve the performance of the people they manage. Learners enrolled on this the level 5 programme must have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment. More specifically they should:
Understand coaching and mentoring concepts relevant to the qualification.
Be able to investigate theories and current thinking about coaching and mentoring and link theory to practice.
Be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
Have access to a minimum of two people that they can coach or mentor for at least 12 hours
NB It is possible to do this qualification when not in employment but candidates must have had some recent experience of management.
