Jason has completed the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring with PNE Development. He chose PNE Development because he had completed an NVQ Level 4 in Management with PNE in 2010 which he really enjoyed and benefited from so it was his first choice when researching coaching qualifications.
Jason works for Save the Children which is an international organisation working across 120 countries. There are 590 staff based at the London headquarters and over 100 staff based regionally across the UK. During 2014 he became responsible for the line management of an expanded workforce and currently manages 5 regional managers who are responsible for 15 FTE national trainer roles and a pool of freelance national and local trainers across the country.
Jason decided to do this qualification because he had previously completed a short management modular course on coaching in his organisation and Jason’s learning and development plan identified a business need coupled with his own natural interest as an area to pursue.
By doing the qualification Jason improved his ability to manage change, improved his performance managing skills, is now able to develop his team and pass on new skills. Jason found that his confidence has greatly increased in many areas. It has helped to improve his management style with the team and he is using the coaching conversation techniques to help the team to reflect on their own management styles and to encourage them to set more focused short and medium term goals.
He found the assignment writing challenging because he was a little out of practice but study aids and guidance from his assessor really helped. Jason found oscar and globe very easy to use with everything he needed in one place. He said it “is quite satisfying seeing progress and keeping track of what has been achieved”. He liked that he was able to manage his study at a time to suit.
“The qualification and support was delivered to a very high standard, this is why I came to PNE Development for a second time and have studied with the company for over 5 years. I whole heartedly recommend PNE courses for the flexibility, support, high quality and beneficial impact.”
Jason has recently got married and is going to take time out to adopt in 2015, “...but may come back when I re-enter the workforce!”
The impact on his organisation was the improved performance of the team and as a second tier manager he is hoping this will have a wider impact in the performance reviews of the team. In 2015 Jason will be part of a senior management working group looking at ways to improve internal workings across the UK workforce. Jason says that by doing the qualification he has raised his profile and developed his influencing skills.
Overall, he said that he is extremely satisfied with the qualification process and feels, “it’s necessary to have a professional qualification to establish credibility”.
