Wanting accreditation of her existing experience, to develop her volunteer management knowledge, and to progress with her own personal development, Jessica decided to study the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Management of Volunteers - one of the many qualifications offered via distance learning by PNE Development.
Jessica enrolled onto the course whilst working as Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity that works to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people. As Volunteer Co-ordinator, Jessica is responsible for the recruitment, training and ongoing support of volunteers to deliver the Resilience Programme, a drug and alcohol awareness and prevention programme delivered at secondary schools.
Jessica completed the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Management of Volunteers in November 2017, and now reports that her knowledge of managing volunteers has increased from an 'Average' understanding to a now 'Excellent' understanding. With this, Jessica also notes that the qualification has increased her confidence, has improved her ability to develop the team, and has increased innovation throughout her team.
As a result of studying the qualification with PNE Development, Jessica has a newfound confidence and understanding of what is needed to be a successful and impactful Volunteer Co-ordinator:
"The qualification has changed my approach to volunteer recruitment, has made me think more about efficient ways to recruit volunteers and to assess the motivation of volunteers to inform their role and placement within the organisation. Consequently, I have a better understanding of organisational policy and procedures by closely studying them throughout the duration of my course."
As well as her own personal and professional development, Jessica also notes that her organisation has benefited from her undertaking the qualification. She states her increased knowledge of strategy and theory has been applied to her role as Volunteer Co-ordinator:
"More efficient volunteer recruitment means I have been able to better manage my time, freeing myself up for other opportunities within the organisation. Since completing the qualification with PNE Development, I have identified queries regarding volunteer procedure, which have ensured that I follow all procedures correctly."
When asked about the level of service PNE Development deliver, Jessica emphasized the quality of support she received from her own assessor whilst studying:
"I really enjoyed completing the qualification with PNE Development and I am very satisfied with my qualification. What was most important to me was having a very helpful and friendly assessor who supported me throughout my study and who was very organised and clear in her instructions. I feel I've gained a lot more understanding of how to better apply myself to the role and therefore to get better outcomes for volunteers."
